Demographic Dynamics of SSPA Population in SSPA increased from 104521 in 1991 to 127492 in 2001
indicating a simple annual growth of 2.2 per cent over the last
decade. The rate of growth of
urban population was considerably higher than that of rural population.
The urban population increased at a rate of 2.4 per cent during the same
period, as against 2.1 per cent of growth for rural population. Table 2 presents the size
of population and growth trend over a few decades for SSPA as a whole and
separately for urban and rural segments.
Table - 2 Gross Population Density Gross population density showing the land-man ratio in a given area at a given time has a great significance from the point of view of planning. The population density of SSPA and its constituent units - urban and rural - over the period 1951-2001 is depicted vide Table- 3. It may be mentioned here that the data relate to urban area include Visva-Bharati Complex also. Population Density Variation SSPA (1951–2001)
Table - 3 Age and Sex Distribution of Population in SSPA It transpired that the population of SSPA bears some marks of having a good number of households consisting mainly of working age members. Age and Sex Distribution of Population in SSPA
Table-4 The percentage share of working age-group population (between 15 to 59 years of age) was higher for urban (71.32) than that of rural (64.61). There was not much difference in the distribution pattern between males and females LEVEL OF EDUCATION Table-5 shows the percentage distribution of males and females over different standards of general education. The table is based on all persons aged 7 years or more. Distribution of Persons by General Education in SSPA
Population Projection for SSPA In absence of an established database on the demographic variable like fertility, mortality ,migration e.t.c. for , it is difficult to estimate future population using the various demographic methods. Therefore three alternative mathematical projections have been applied to estimate the future population of SSPA using various functions. The following methods have been used to arrive at the projected population. (a) Extrapolation by linear growth rate (b) Extrapolation by exponential growth rate (c) Employment generation dependency. Out of three such projections alternative two which is a second degree fit by the method of least square (seems to be more reasonable) has been used for the purpose under reference. The projected populations of SSPA, as a whole , and for two segments (urban and rural) are shown in Table-6 The population of SSPA is expected to be 2.56 lakhs in 2025 with a break-up of 1. 32 lakhs for urban and 1.24 lakhs for rural area. Projected Population for Different Time Horizon in SSPA Table - 6
